Using your PBS Headlamp
A headlamp earns its place in the first minutes of a dark, unplanned moment. Here is how to have the PBS Headlamp ready for that moment, and how to get the most from it once it arrives.
Before you need it
- Charge it. Charge the built-in battery over USB-C when it arrives.
- Give it a home. Keep it where your hand finds it in the dark: the bedside drawer, the car's glovebox, your kit bag.
- Check it with the rest. When you check your other supplies, switch it on and top up the charge.
Fit it
- Put the headband on and adjust it until the lamp sits level and snug on your forehead.
- Tilt the lamp head: down for work in your hands, up and forward for the way ahead.
Pick the right light
- Close work (a fuse box, a first-aid kit, a map): a lower brightness mode, so the light doesn't glare back at you.
- Moving around (a stairwell, a path, a roadside): the brightest mode, to see further ahead.
- Around other people at night: the red-light mode.
Three moments it's made for
- The power goes out at home. Both hands free to find the breaker, light the stove, or settle the kids.
- A stop on a dark road. Light on the wheel nuts, not in your teeth.
- Camp after sunset. Pitch, cook and pack without holding a torch.
One courtesy: angle the beam down when you're facing someone, so it doesn't shine in their eyes.
